BRITISH FLOWERS WEEK

3 – 9th June 2024

British Flowers week is now in it’s 12th year and with each one, it has grown into something more beautiful. Last year I hosted a Large Scale Installation Workshop to celebrate the breadth and beauty of  our native blooms, with florists and flower growers alike coming to participate and learn from me and fellow florists Faye & Hanna who also grow and offer Wedding Flowers.
Through British Flowers Week, I and many more (namely the members of Flowers From the Farm) hope to inspire you to look more locally to buy your flowers. Whether for a wedding , Birthday or Funeral. The world of floristry has moved on so much, embracing more eco-friendly techniques and ways of working. I am beyond proud and grateful to showcase our flowers to create seasonally inspired Wedding & Event Flowers.

BFW was first established by the New Covent Garden Flower Market in 2013 but it has now decided that it is time to “hand the mantle of British Flowers Week to Flowers from the Farm“.

As you may or may not be aware, I am a member of FFTF,  an award-winning membership association for artisan cut flower growers in the UK. They help promote small-scale growers of local, seasonal British cut flowers with a membership of more than 1000 flower businesses across the UK.

” New Covent Garden Flower Market’s work in coordinating British Flowers Week for the past decade has helped put British cut flowers on the map. It’s now Flowers from the Farm’s turn to take the campaign forward into its second decade and we cannot wait to get started!

Today, UK-grown flowers have just 14% of the UK cut flower market. We want to change that and we’re looking forward to working together with our friends and colleagues across the industry to ignite a passion for British cut flowers. ”

Wendy Paul, Co Chair of FFTF

LOCALLY GROWN FLOWERS

Of course, I am not a flower farmer (maybe one day) BUT as you are well aware, I work closely with local FFTF growers and pride myself on only using seasonal British Flowers to curate natural & layered floral designs for my couples & clients alike.

The photos I’ve shared here are from 2016 and at a time when British Flowers
were not as talked about as they are now.

This cutting patch belongs to Carole and she kindly allowed me to cut when I visited…. and while that is an utter privilege it is not as feasible for me to do so now. The business has grown and so have the amounts of flowers needed to wield my couples Floral Designs. To be honest, most of my growers would not want me cutting – it works much better if they cut to a colour palette and amount- and THIS is why it’s so important for me to have trusting and good working relationships with my growers.  Ultimately, I couldn’t do what I do, without them!

You can search via the Flowers From the Farm website for all BFW events near you OR perhaps you could cut some of your own home-grown flowers to enjoy inside!?
